Peterson named assistant principal at Lexington Middle

LEXINGTON, SC — During the July 19, 2016 regular monthly meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved a new assistant principal for Lexington Middle School.

Laura V. Peterson comes to Lexington District One from Richland County School District Two, where she worked as assistant administrator at Ridge View High since 2012. Her duties included overseeing the Blazer Academy for freshmen students, improving professional development and evaluating teachers.

Before joining the staff at Ridge View High, Peterson taught at E.L. Wright Middle in Richland Two from 2003 to 2012. She served on the Richland Two sixth-grade transition team, organized field trips, served as a writing coach, and taught English language arts for sixth, seventh and eighth grade.

Career highlights include being chosen as a Teacher of the Year finalist in 2011 and being named the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11079 Teacher of the Year in 2011.

Along with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Winthrop University, Peterson received a Master of Science in learning and literacy from Walden University, and specialist degree in teacher leadership and administration from Capella University.

Peterson is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, the International Literacy Association and the South Carolina Education Association.
