Peterson named diversity award winner

May 4, 2011

GREENVILLE, SC – May 4, 2011 – Chirinjev Peterson, director of international education at Greenville Technical College, was recognized at the Seventh Annual Upstate Diversity Leadership Award Dinner on May 3 in Greenville, South Carolina.

Peterson received the Outstanding Contribution to International Diversity award at the dinner. The event recognized organizations and individuals who have been instrumental in promoting diversity in Upstate South Carolina.

Peterson oversees two foreign exchange programs at the college. Under her leadership, these international students have spent more than 500 hours in community service activities this academic year alone. Students from other countries gain much from living and learning in America and take home new perspectives. Local students and members of the Upstate community gain just as much as they get to know people from other cultures and realize that whatever part of the world they come from, people are people. Through her work at Greenville Tech, Peterson is instrumental in helping international students develop into global leaders while fostering understanding between countries and cultures.
