Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Greenville Technical College wins international awards

Greenville Technical College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society has been recognized at the organization’s recent international convention held in National Harbor, MD.  The Alpha Zeta Sigma chapter of PTK and the group’s faculty advisor, Dr. Anita Tam, made the list of the Top 100 Chapters for the third consecutive year, and won five major international-level awards including the Distinguished Honors in Action Project Award for the “Art, Heart, & Hope: A Matter of Time” community outreach project and a Distinguished Chapter Member Award for Lawrence Anderson. The biggest honor of all was when the chapter was named the 7th finalist for the 2016 Most Distinguished Chapter Award out of 1,300 chapters worldwide.

“Art, Heart & Hope: A Matter of Time” raised awareness of the plight of children in the foster care system. It also raised $8,000 to benefit the South Carolina Heart Gallery, which helps children in foster care find loving adoptive homes, and established a scholarship fund for Greenville Technical College students formerly in the foster care system.

Phi Theta Kappa’s purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. The four hallmarks of PTK are leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and service.  Since 1918, 3,155,896 students have participated in PTK, with members achieving an average GPA of 3.8 and an average graduation rate of 92%.
