Philharmonic to mark Koger Center's birthday

January 12, 2009

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Philharmonic plans to pay tribute to the Koger Center’s 20th birthday at its 7:30 p.m. concert Saturday at the downtown venue.

The Koger Center opened to a sold out crowd on Jan. 14, 1989 with a philharmonic performance: the one from London, England, however. Music Director Morihiko Nakahara is happy to lead South Carolina’s version in an acknowledgment this Saturday night on the week marking the venue’s 20th birthday.

The SCP has been a primary tenant of the Koger Center since its opening, performing anywhere from nine to 17 concerts in each of 20 seasons. Executive Director Rhonda Hunsinger has been with the orchestra for ten of the seasons.

“We are so pleased to mark this occasion at our concert. We are grateful for our partnership with the Koger Center and have enjoyed being a part of its success, and look forward to another 20 great years,” Hunsinger said.
