Physicians Choice Laboratory Services (PCLS) partners with TRICARE South, Humana

May 27, 2015

PCLS is pleased to announce that its esoteric laboratory testing performed at the company’s CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratory will now be available to more than  3 million TRICARE South beneficiaries including active duty service members, retirees and their families in the South Region.

Humana is the administrator of the TRICARE program in the South Region.   The TRICARE South Region includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, the Fort Campbell area of Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

PCLS’s unique mix of services are designed to inform physicians on the patient’s health status relative to several difficult to manage disease states with the goal of improving health outcomes. As an example, PCLS offers advanced laboratory testing aimed at reducing the over-utilization of prescription drugs while aiding doctors in the use of individualized treatment plans that provide better medication outcomes, reduce adverse drug reactions and lower healthcare costs.

PCLS is focused on informing physicians as to how a patient’s genetics can influence drug response which in turn can be used to better titrate a patient to targeted therapeutic levels and minimize adverse reactions.  This same dedication to personalized medicine is being applied in all lines of testing services from Women’s Health, to dealing with digestive diseases, to managing risk of heart disease, to recurrence monitoring of bladder cancer.

“Genetics offers a window to better understand the individual aspect of disease – and PCLS is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through advanced diagnostic testing.  PCLS believes that the healthcare community understands the importance of early testing and detection in order to improve patient care and drive efficiency throughout the healthcare system,” said Joe Wiegel, CEO and president of PCLS.  “We are happy to partner with TRICARE South to ensure that our services are options for more clinicians and patients.”

“Through this collaboration we are pleased to offer our services to TRICARE South, Humana’s 3 million beneficiaries,” added Teri Orsini, PCLS VP of Managed Care.
