Pope Flynn adds new associate Sara Weathers in public finance and government law

January 28, 2020

Pope Flynn, a Columbia-headquartered law firm concentrating in public finance and governmental law, has added Sara Weathers as an associate in the firm’s public finance and governmental law practices. Weathers received her BA in Government at Wofford College, and graduated magna cum laude with a JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Prior to entering the field of law, Weathers worked in recruitment for Edens, a real estate developer. After graduating from college, she served as a Teach for America Corps member in Atlanta.

“One of the things that attracted me to Pope Flynn was its work in public finance,” said Weathers. “I appreciate working in an area of the law that allows us to serve so many communities filled with everyday people — from school districts to hospitals, from water and fire districts to municipal development. The boutique nature of Pope Flynn’s identity allows us significant creativity, autonomy, teamwork, and service, all important values to me.”

“We have been fortunate in our recruiting in recent years, bringing on both senior level partners and talented young lawyers who want to be a part of the growth of South and North Carolina,” said Joe Lucas, managing member of the firm. “Sara has demonstrated that interest in her past work, and is already a valued addition to our team in public finance and governmental counsel.”

Weathers was a member of the Order of the Coif, as well as the Order of the Wig and Robe at the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is a member of the Contemporaries group at the Columbia Museum of Art. Weathers will be based out of Pope Flynn’s Columbia office.
