Porter Barron Jr., Owner, The War Mouth

December 15, 2020

The growth of small independent restaurants in Columbia over the past twenty years has been a huge part of the transformation of our local community. The War Mouth opened five years ago in December 2015 in a cool place north of Main Street at 1209 Franklin Street. It is the result of the vision of Chef Rhett Elliott and childhood friend Porter Barron, Jr. to showcase authentic South Carolina whole-hog barbecue.

With and emphasis on fresh local produce, you will also find Carolina Gold rice and old-fashioned hash, smoked ribs or catfish stew and cornbread, deviled eggs and boiled peanuts, and much more.

These locally owned restaurants need our support. Please buy local this holiday season.
