Portion of east college street closed through September for Simpsonville streetscape project

September 23, 2026

Ongoing infrastructure improvements in downtown Simpsonville will keep a block of East College Street closed to vehicular traffic through the end of September.

According to a project update from city officials, East College Street is shut down between Church Street and Hedge Street while utility crews complete necessary underground infrastructure work.

Motorists navigating the east side of downtown Simpsonville are being directed onto local detour routes. Drivers traveling toward the construction zone along East College Street must turn at the closure points, utilizing Academy Street, Church Street, Hedge Street, and East Curtis Street to bypass the work area. Turns onto the closed section from either Church or Hedge Street are strictly prohibited.

Visitors and parishioners heading to Holy Cross Episcopal Church cannot enter from the closed stretch of East College Street and must instead access the church property via Jonesville Road.

The closure represents an active phase of the broader multi-year Downtown Simpsonville Streetscape Project, which broke ground earlier this summer to modernize downtown utilities, install new streetscaping, and realign traffic flow around the city center.

City officials anticipate the roadwork will advance in the coming days, with the closure on East College Street scheduled to extend toward North East Main Street in late September. Drivers are urged to exercise caution in downtown work zones, obey all posted detour signage, and follow temporary traffic controls.
