Post Labor Day White – You Don’t Have To Pack It All Away

Labor Day has come and gone and with it the traditional rule that white must now be packed away until Memorial Day.

With social media fashionistas and reality television celebrities breaking this rule on a regular basis, the fashion world has also seemed to embrace the rebellion.  White is no longer a seasonal staple, but an annual one.

Few exceptions aside, you should feel comfortable and confident wearing white any time of year.  Here are few things to keep in mind for the post Labor Day white:

1.   Pants.  White pants ebb and flow in popularity, but have withstood the test of time to become industry constants.  However, people are still on the fence about wearing them.  Pulling off white pants takes more of a confidence boost than anything else.  In the Spring/Summer they look great with bright, light colors, but in Fall/Winter they look just as great with deep, rich colors and neutrals.

2.   Shirts.  White shirts are universal and a ‘must have’ in every closet.  Whether you choose a structured, fitted oxford or a loose, semi-sheer, boxy one they look great with shorts, leather pants and as layers under chucky sweaters.  The key is finding the style and fit that works best for you.

3.   Shoes.  Whether it’s boots, pumps or sandals white shoes generally don’t make the jump past Labor Day, but that is also changing.  We are seeing more printed, textured and color blocked shoes using white for Fall, particularly early in the season.  The ever-iconic black and white combo seems to be the most popular.  If you try to pull this off keep the outfit dark and basic allowing the shoes to be the focal point.

4.   Bags.  Like shoes, this use to be an accessory that was packed away after Summer, but we are seeing more bags featuring white pop up in Fall.  Texture is a huge trends with these seasonal bags with some of the most popular being shearling, quilted leather and embossed animal prints.

Shake up your Fall wardrobe and extend the life of your summer whites by breaking traditional rules.  No longer taking a back seat as we move out of summer, white can be a star all year long.
