Postpartum Support Charleston hosts Virtual Moms’ Run – May 3-9

March 24, 2021

In light of the continuing COVID pandemic, area nonprofit Postpartum Support Charleston will host its 18th annual Moms’ Run virtually this year. Event organizers anticipate being able to resume an in-person event in 2022.

The race is normally held the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend and includes a family fun day component. This year, the virtual format will allow participants to run or walk anytime from May 3-9. The Moms’ Run also coincides with National Maternal Mental Health Week from May 3-7.

Registration is $25 per person through March 31. Beginning on April 1, registration is $30 per person. Postpartum Support Charleston will host a drive-thru packet pickup from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 2 at Philip Simmons High School just off Clements Ferry Road.

Register at www.ppdsupport.org/events/momsrun2021. Registration includes a race T-shirt and bib. Those who are unable to attend the drive-thru packet pickup can have their shirt shipped for an additional fee. Participants also can add a youth shirt size to their registration for little ones who want to participate.

Participants are encouraged to create fundraising teams to raise additional funds for Postpartum Support Charleston’s work helping moms in the local community struggling with maternal mental illness such as postpartum depression, anxiety and OCD. The organization offers peer-to-peer support through in-person groups and a private Facebook Group. It also helps moms get connected to counselors and other treatment resources.

“Even though our world has been turned upside down by COVID, moms are still having babies. Moms are still struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety. In fact, the isolation of COVID has been even more challenging for new moms,” said Holly Fisher, board chair of Postpartum Support Charleston. “Our work providing support and resources to moms here in our community is vital. We’re excited to offer a virtual option for this year’s Moms’ Run, giving people everywhere the opportunity to show their support for moms.”

Participants are encouraged to map out a 3.1-mile route to run, walk, bike or push a stroller. Share your virtual Moms’ Run photos on social media with the hashtag #virtualmomsrun and tag Postpartum Support Charleston on Facebook and Instagram @ppdsupportchs.
