Pretty Place to Close for Public Visitation During Summer 2026 as Camp Greenville Updates Access Schedule
April 14, 2026Those hoping to take in the breathtaking mountain views from Pretty Place this summer will need to plan ahead.
YMCA Camp Greenville has announced that Pretty Place Chapel will close to public visitation for the summer beginning May 22, 2026, and will reopen August 24, 2026, as part of a new seasonal visitation schedule designed to better accommodate summer camp operations and improve safety on campus.
Known formally as Fred W. Symmes Chapel, Pretty Place has become one of the Upstate’s most beloved scenic destinations, drawing visitors from across the Southeast for its panoramic Blue Ridge Mountain views, weddings, worship services, and sightseeing.
Camp leadership said the increasing popularity of the chapel has prompted the need for proactive measures to protect the experience for campers and guests alike.
“Pretty Place Chapel is located on the grounds of YMCA Camp Greenville, which is first and foremost an overnight summer camp for children and families,” the organization shared in its announcement. “With increased visitation comes a responsibility to care well for both this space and the campers who call camp home each summer.”
The closure will apply to general public visitation only during the summer months. All weddings and previously reserved events will continue as scheduled, and the chapel will remain available for private bookings on dates not otherwise reserved for camp or events.
For hikers, sightseers, and Upstate residents who enjoy making the scenic drive to one of the region’s most iconic overlooks, the announcement serves as an important reminder to plan visits outside the summer closure window.
Visitors planning trips during the rest of the year are encouraged to check the official visitation schedule in advance, as access can vary based on camp programming, weddings, and special events. The schedule is posted approximately two weeks in advance at campgreenville.org/visitation-schedule.
Located in northern Greenville County near Cleveland, South Carolina, Pretty Place remains a popular day-trip destination for many in the Upstate seeking mountain views, reflection, or a memorable hiking stop.
