Preview Party and Pop-Up Artist Exhibition Kicks Off Columbia Open Studios

March 30, 2015

Columbia Open Studios April 9, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – 701 Center for Contemporary Art will host a Preview Party to kick off Columbia Open Studios on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. on the second floor of historic 701 Whaley. Open to the public, the event will feature a cash bar, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, music by DJ Irv and an open gallery exhibition.

Now in its 5th year, this free, self-led driving tour of artists’ studios throughout Richland and Lexington Counties showcases the Midlands’ brilliant underground visual arts community. Artists share their techniques, tools and inspirations with tourgoers and offer the public a chance to purchase their artwork with no markup.

New artists join the tour this year, each harnessing unique talents, giving tourgoers the chance to learn fresh, intimate stories – while keeping 100% of art sales, meaning money spent at Columbia Open Studios goes directly back into the local economy.

Preview Party guests will enjoy a cash bar by Liquid Assets and bites by Linda Phillips Catering, as well as a chance to browse polymedia artist Eto Otitigbe’s exhibition, featured in the 701 CCA Gallery. Otitigbe is a multi-media artist based in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Austin, Tex. whose sculpture, performance and installation work investigates issues of race, technology, politics and human interaction.

Tickets for the Columbia Open Studios Preview Party are $5 for 701 CCA members and $10 for nonmembers. Cash, credit and check will be accepted at the door.
