Primary Runoff Decides Two Races

Tuesday’s Primary Runoff settled two close races, one for each party.

For Democrats, Krystle Matthews beat Catherine Fleming Bruce in a runoff for U.S. Senate. Matthews captured 55.78% of the Laurens County votes but lost to Bruce who won with 50.90% of the state. Bruce will be on the ballot in November agains Republican Senator Tim Scott.

In the race for the Republican Superintendent of Education nominee, Ellen Weaver beat Kathy Maness with 63.91% of total votes in the state and a stronger preference in Laurens County taking 69.96% in the county. Weaver will be on the ballot against Democrat Lisa Ellis in the general election in November.
