Center helps patients get treatment closer to home

Prisma Health expanded its comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) into Orangeburg, increasing access to specialized care for patients with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders in the area.

Located at 1724 Village Park Drive in Orangeburg, the clinic is open on the first Wednesday of each month.

“We’re thrilled about the new Hemophilia Treatment Center in Orangeburg,” said Robin Jones, HTC coordinator at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital. “Our goal was to meet the needs of our patients in the Lowcountry and lessen their travel times. We are dedicated to ensuring that individuals living with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders have access to the highest quality of care, no matter where they reside.”

Meghan Budde, a mother of two children with a rare blood disorder – storage pool platelet deficiency, moved to the Lowcountry from Tennessee in 2016. Budde knew she wanted her children to be associated with a national treatment center and connected with Prisma Health’s HTC in Columbia.

“From the very first time we met Robin and the entire staff; it was the most welcoming experience we have ever had. It was all about my kids, their experience and how we could simplify life for them,” said Budde.

With this new location, Budde and her family save about four hours on appointment days, allowing the kids to not have to miss a full day of school.

“Prisma Health is one of those places you walk in, and you just know you are taken care of. With the new Orangeburg location, it’s like they moved into my backyard,” said Budde. “The staff has always been a great resource for my children and have educated them on their disorder and the best way to manage it.”

Prisma Health operates South Carolina’s only federally supported comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center. The center’s primary facility is located at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands in Columbia, with additional satellite offices located at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate in Greenville and now in Orangeburg.

Prisma Health’s HTC network serves more than 300 patients, catering to a diverse demographic of both pediatric and adult individuals. Approximately 165 pediatric patients and 135 adults benefit from the specialized care and support provided by Prisma Health’s team.
