Brett Meredith has been named the new executive director of Prisma Health Midlands Foundation in Columbia, S.C.

Meredith has more than 35 years of experience in public service, organizational management and nonprofit leadership, most recently serving as Chief Executive Officer of Community Food Bank of Central Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. At Community Food Bank, Meredith led donor engagement and growth strategies that resulted in hundreds of new food distribution locations, millions of additional meals provided to local communities and a significant increase in donor support. For nearly 20 years, Meredith held leadership positions with The Salvation Army in Texas, Louisiana and Virginia. Most recently, he was state director for business in Texas and was responsible for multiple teams and operations of 26 Salvation Army stores and eight new construction initiatives statewide. For more than 16 years, Meredith served in regional commander positions with The Salvation Army. In this role, he led board member engagement, donor and volunteer relations, operations and finance. Meredith led multi-million-dollar fundraising campaigns and operations for two Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center projects. His service with The Salvation Army from 2002 to 2019 resulted in increased donor support, organizational growth and enhancements in programs and services.

“After an exhaustive and thorough search, we are extremely excited to welcome Brett to Prisma Midlands Health Foundation,” said Elizabeth Nkuo Johnson, chair, Prisma Health Midlands Foundation board of directors. In addition to his strong ties to our community, Brett has vast experience in leading successful teams, most recently with the food bank in Alabama, and throughout his long career with the Salvation Army. We are looking forward to the strategic leadership and vision he will provide to the Foundation as we endeavor to serve the needs of Prisma Health in the Midlands.”

Meredith and his family have deep roots in the Midlands of S.C. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, his family continued their music ministry, “The Merediths,” and relocated to Columbia, S.C. Meredith served as business manager and lead vocalist for Dik Meredith Ministries, headquartered in Columbia, in the 1990s. Meredith looks forward to returning to the Midlands and leading Prisma Health Midlands Foundation in mid-June.

“There is nothing like coming home,” said Meredith. “We left the Midlands to serve with The Salvation Army and gained a tremendous amount of experience as leaders in numerous communities, both big and small. It is a privilege to come back to where we consider home to lead a great organization that has assisted and impacted the health care experience positively for thousands of our neighbors in the Midlands.”

As executive director of Prisma Health Midlands Foundation, Brett will work with the Foundation team, boards and local hospital leaders to engage donors and foster philanthropic support for Prisma Health in the Midlands. For more than 21 years, community support through Prisma Health Midlands Foundation has resulted in more than $133 million in distributions to Prisma Health in the Midlands. This support has helped Prisma Health advance programs and services and fund innovative equipment for patients and their families throughout the Midlands.

Brett and his wife, Mary, have two children, Analese and Johnathan, and four grandchildren.
