Prisma Health Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center opens new office in Greer

October 14, 2021

Prisma Health Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center has opened a new location in Greer to better serve patients across the Upstate region. The office is located on the Prisma Health Greer campus and is now open for appointments.

South Carolina has some of the highest diabetes rates in the nation, which also means that it has a higher rate of diabetes-related foot wounds. Approximately 504,000 people in South Carolina, or 13% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. An additional 123,000 people in South Carolina have diabetes but don’t know it, greatly increasing their health risk.

But quick care can significantly improve outcomes, prevent limb loss and help maintain mobility.

“Every year, three to five million Americans are unable to live comfortable, productive lives as a result of non-healing wounds. Healing requires both the best technology and collaboration among healthcare providers to offer a complete range of services with the latest in wound care diagnostic and treatments,” said Dr. Robert Klein, a doctor of podiatric medicine and division chair of wound care for Prisma Health in the Upstate. “We are thrilled to increase access for patients in the Greer area with a convenient location where complex conditions can be effectively cared for and managed.”

The new center in Greer will provide care to individuals struggling with major wounds, ulcers or infections and help fast track their recovery with the latest technology and treatments. Some of the wounds commonly treated include:

  • Diabetic wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Burns
  • Radiation burns
  • Trauma/injury
  • Non-healing surgical wounds
  • Wounds lasting more than 30 days
  • Wounds refusing to improve after multiple therapies and treatments

Chronic wounds require an advanced level of care and expertise. The wound healing centers are comprised of specialty-trained clinicians using state-of-the-art techniques to offer the best wound healing treatments available, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a simple yet advanced treatment that increases the oxygen level in body tissues to kill germs and promote healing. Additional treatment services include:

  • Wound care dressings
  • Wound debridement
  • Negative pressure wound therapy
  • Compression therapy
  • Pain management
  • Patient education

In addition to Klein, the following providers will serve patients at the new Greer location: Dr. Sharon Murray, Dr. William Wheeler and Jennifer Vaughn, family nurse practitioner.

The office is located at 340 Medical Parkway in Greer. To schedule an appointment with a provider at the location or to learn more, call 864-797-9480.

Prisma Health also has four additional wound healing and hyperbaric centers in the Upstate:

  • Baptist Easley Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center
  • Upstate Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center in Clinton
  • Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine – Oconee
  • Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at the Patewood campus
