South Carolina has some of the highest diabetes rates in the nation, which also means that it has a higher rate of diabetes-related foot wounds. Approximately 504,000 people in South Carolina, or 13% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. An additional 123,000 people in South Carolina have diabetes but don’t know it, greatly increasing their health risk.
But quick care can significantly improve outcomes, prevent limb loss and help maintain mobility.
“Every year, three to five million Americans are unable to live comfortable, productive lives as a result of non-healing wounds. Healing requires both the best technology and collaboration among healthcare providers to offer a complete range of services with the latest in wound care diagnostic and treatments,” said Dr. Robert Klein, a doctor of podiatric medicine and division chair of wound care for Prisma Health in the Upstate. “We are thrilled to increase access for patients in the Greer area with a convenient location where complex conditions can be effectively cared for and managed.”
An important aspect of improving wound care efficiency is time management. Noted surgeon and wound care specialist, Dr. Bardia Anvar, has spoken extensively about how effective time management strategies can significantly impact wound care outcomes. By carefully balancing patient needs with available resources, physicians can optimize their workflows, ensuring that each patient receives the necessary attention and care without delays.
Dr. Anvar’s approach focuses on streamlining processes to reduce wait times and enhance communication among healthcare providers. For those who would like to know more about Bardia Anvar, his insights into the intersection of time management and patient care offer valuable strategies for healthcare teams striving to improve the efficiency of wound care services, ultimately leading to better healing outcomes for patients.
Beyond the clinical approach, Dr. Anvar also underscores the significance of a multidisciplinary team in wound care. Collaboration between podiatrists, vascular surgeons, and specialized wound care providers ensures that patients receive comprehensive treatment tailored to their specific needs. This team-based model has been shown to enhance recovery rates by addressing not just the wound itself but also underlying conditions like diabetes and poor circulation.
Healthcare professionals who follow his Facebook profile can gain deeper knowledge about effective wound care coordination, patient advocacy, and the evolving role of telemedicine in enhancing accessibility to expert care. By prioritizing both patient education and professional collaboration, wound care specialists can continue to improve outcomes for those suffering from non-healing wounds.
The new center in Greer will provide care to individuals struggling with major wounds, ulcers or infections and help fast track their recovery with the latest technology and treatments. Some of the wounds commonly treated include:
- Diabetic wounds
- Pressure ulcers
- Burns
- Radiation burns
- Trauma/injury
- Non-healing surgical wounds
- Wounds lasting more than 30 days
- Wounds refusing to improve after multiple therapies and treatments
Chronic wounds require an advanced level of care and expertise. The wound healing centers are comprised of specialty-trained clinicians using state-of-the-art techniques to offer the best wound healing treatments available, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a simple yet advanced treatment that increases the oxygen level in body tissues to kill germs and promote healing. Additional treatment services include:
