Proposed changes to city-designated vendor spaces on the peninsula

June 15, 2026

The City of Charleston is holding a special Traffic and Transportation Committee meeting today to discuss proposed changes to vendor locations and future permitting opportunities for mobile food and street vendors on the peninsula.

Proposed changes:

The Traffic and Transportation Committee will consider recommending that City Council remove the following mobile food vending spaces from the list of available vendor locations:

  • King Street & Queen Street
  • King Street & Princess Street

The Committee will also consider recommending that the following vendor spaces be made available only through a competitive bidding process and execution of a franchise agreement:

  • East Bay Street & Gillon Street
  • Broad Street & Meeting Street
  • Concord Street & Cumberland Street
  • Glebe Street & George Street
  • Ashley Avenue & Sabin Street
  • Meeting Street & John Street
  • Meeting Street & Ann Street
  • King Street & Spring Street

The proposed changes are intended to address high demand for vendor spaces and reduce enforcement challenges associated with these locations, in accordance with City Code Section 17-121.

These proposed changes will be brought to the Ways & Means Committee on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The Committee will consider approval of bid specifications for City-designated vendor spaces on the Peninsula for the sale of food, beverages, and reading materials.
