Providence Health announces location of new freestanding Emergency Services Facility

June 20, 2017

Providence Health announced that their new freestanding emergency services facility in Fairfield County will be located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 321 and Highway 213 across from Bi-Lo near Monticello Road in Winnsboro, SC. This follows the announcement that Providence Health, Fairfield Memorial Hospital and Fairfield County have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to transform the delivery of local healthcare services into a model that better meets the needs of Fairfield County residents. The MOU, which was approved by the Fairfield County Council in May, involves the construction of a new freestanding emergency services facility that will be owned and operated by Providence Health and the subsequent closing of the Emergency Room and inpatient bed services at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. This closing will not occur until the new, freestanding emergency services facility is open.

“We are blessed to have secured a location that is central to the Fairfield community,” says Providence Health Market CEO Scott Campbell. “We are always looking for ways to enhance access to quality care close to home for those we serve, and this new facility will allow us to do just that.”

The project is made possible in part by South Carolina’s Hospital Transformation Program, which supports rural access to healthcare resources and has contributed $3.8 million to this multi-million dollar project. Representatives of Providence Health, Fairfield Memorial Hospital and Fairfield County will collaborate on a plan to ensure a seamless transition in care.

“We are so glad to be partnered with Providence and Fairfield County on this project,” says Fairfield Memorial Hospital CEO Suzanne Doscher, “and that we will be able to continue providing emergency health right here, when and where our community members need it.”

A freestanding emergency services facility is structurally separate and distinct from a hospital and provides emergency care to patients. The freestanding emergency services facility in Fairfield County will provide 24-hour access to emergency care, and also include computerized tomography (CT) scan, digital radiology and lab services. This facility will also be supported by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and qualified nursing and ancillary personnel.

“This is great news for our community, and we are so pleased that Providence Health was able to obtain this centrally located site so quickly,” says Fairfield County Council Chair Billy Smith. “This will benefit the health and well-being of our community for many years to come.”
