PTC Foundation ‘Spring Forward’ 5K Run/Walk set for March 23

March 11, 2024

The Piedmont Technical College Foundation is preparing to hold its third annual Spring Forward for Student Success 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 23, 2024, on a USA Track and Field-certified course around the Lex Walters Campus-Greenwood.

“This is a fun event for the whole family,” said Fran Wiley, associate vice president of the PTC Foundation. “Whether they walk, run, or just cheer on others while enjoying a frozen treat, this is a Saturday for making memories for a great cause — student scholarships, book/supply assistance, and more.”

Participants at the starting line of last year’s Spring Forward 5K Run/Walk

The cost to participate is $25 per runner and $20 per walker until March 15. After that date, the cost will increase by $5. Race-day registration will be allowed.

Packet pick-up begins a 7 a.m. in front of the William H. “Billy” O’Dell Upstate Center for Manufacturing Excellence on South Emerald Road. The 5K run/walk, a timed event for runners only, will start at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony for runners will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. The first three finishers in both the overall male/female and the masters (age 40 and up) categories each will receive $100, $50, and $25 for first, second, and third place, respectively. Awards also will be presented to the top male and female finishers in each age category.

Whole families walked to support the PTC Foundation in 2023

The event moves forward, rain or shine, unless PTC determines that conditions are not safe. If the race is canceled due to inclement weather, there will be no refunds. The PTC Foundation will use registration proceeds to support students attending Piedmont Technical College.

“The PTC Foundation is exceedingly grateful to its generous race sponsors,” Wiley said. “Year after year, they come through to support scholarships for our students.”

Participating sponsors include: Prisma Health and GMK Associates (Finish Line); Ascend Cares, Eaton, C&M, Velux, Greenwood Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, LCWSC, First Citizens Bank, and Self Regional Healthcare (Mile Marker); and George Piersol State Farm, The Links at Stoney Point, and Canteen (Warm-Up).
