Public Invited to Cheer for News and Give on Site at Midlands Gives HQ, IT-oLogy, on May 5

April 30, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The public is invited to join Central Carolina Community Foundation on May 5, 2015 at IT-oLogy, its headquarters and giving station for the Midlands Gives 24-hour online giving challenge. Fans of participating nonprofits are encouraged to bring signs and cheer for their favorite charities as local news crews film on location, and electronic giving stations will be on site.

Midlands Gives is a 24-hour local online giving challenge spanning 11 counties in the Midlands region of South Carolina. Last year’s inaugural Midlands Gives event was an incredible success, generating more than $705,000 for 150 local nonprofits through a one-day-only online public fundraising campaign that went viral.

This year, 250 organizations from Central Carolina Community Foundation’s 11-county service area have registered for Midlands Gives ‘year two’ – almost twice the number of nonprofits that participated last year.

“We are excited to move our headquarters to the heart of the Midlands,” notes JoAnn Turnquist, President & CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “The new location allows the public to be more involved in giving day activities and provides a centralized location to celebrate philanthropy as a community.”

In addition to being the hub for Midlands Gives activities, a giving station will also be set up at IT-oLogy. Giving stations are places with electronic devices where the public can make an online Midlands Gives donation. Multiple participating nonprofits have set up giving day stations throughout the Midlands. A full list of these stations can be found at www.midlandsgives.org or at www.yourfoundation.org/blog.

Celebratory events are scheduled throughout the day at IT-oLogy, including a photo booth, an Aflac duck giveaway, sign-making to support nonprofits, and piñatas. The public will also be invited to take photos that will be posted on billboards throughout the city. A detailed schedule of events will be available at www.midlandsgives.org or www.yourfoundation.org/blog.

The public is encouraged to visit IT-oLogy throughout the day to support their favorite nonprofit organizations with cheers, posters and signs. Live television coverage by WIS will take place from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. during “Sunrise,” every half hour from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. during “The Today Show,” and 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the “Noon” show, as well as during the 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. newscasts.

IT-oLogy is located at 1301 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201, at the corner of Sumter and Gervais. Headquarters will be located on the first floor. There is a pay-to-park garage adjacent to IT-oLogy, accessible from Gervais and Sumter, and there are metered spots nearby on Sumter Street.

The public can also get involved in Midlands Gives social media conversation by following Central Carolina Community Foundation on Twitter, @CCCFtweets, and using the official campaign hashtag, #MidlandsGives.

An updated list of the May 5th activities can be found at www.midlandsgives.org or www.yourfoundation.org/blog.
