April 22, 2025East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) announced it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Publix Super Markets Charities to support Hunger Relief.
Established in 1966, Publix Super Markets Charities aims to meet the needs of the people in the communities, in which Publix operates. They commit to being dedicated to the dignity and value of the human spirit – helping to strengthen it to overcome adversity, determined to offer people hope and a choice for the future, and devoted to the highest standards of community involvement as demonstrated by their founder, George W. Jenkins.
When local neighbors face financial hardship, ECCO steps in to provide vital support—whether through a single act of assistance like food or financial aid, or through long-term guidance. Rooted in its mission of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors,” ECCO’s programs aim to uplift the community with compassion and dignity, helping individuals and families navigate life’s challenges and move toward greater opportunity.
In 2024, ECCO served over 1,500 households, addressing needs ranging from poverty and unemployment to health crises and homelessness. Thanks to partners like Publix Super Markets Charities, ECCO continues offering essential services, including client navigation, financial support, and food distribution. Their Wellness Pantry alone served 965 families last year, distributing over 741,000 lbs. of food—ensuring no one in the East Cooper area goes hungry.
