Grant helps engage individuals and families through YMCA scholarships

YMCA of Greenville announces that Publix Super Markets Charities has donated a $8,500 grant towards the Y’s 2020 Annual Campaign. This is the 13th consecutive year that Publix has supported individuals and families in Greenville County seeking to build a stronger spirit, mind and body through the YMCA of Greenville.

Every dollar raised for the Annual Campaign is used to provide financial assistance to individuals and families in Greenville County who want to participate in the Y’s programs or services, regardless of their ability to pay. Some of the programs and services that the Publix Super Markets Charities grant will provide financial assistance for are Y memberships for those seeking to improve their overall health and wellness; a resident overnight camp experience at Camp Greenville for children to build independence and resilience; full-day and after-school care for school-aged children; youth sports programs like soccer, basketball and volleyball; SC Youth in Government Model Legislature participation for teens; and live-saving swim lessons for all.

“Through their generous grant to the Y’s Annual Campaign, Publix Super Markets Charities shows that it continually lives out its mission to meet the needs of our community by providing access to the Y’s programs and services for all,” said Diana Watson, chief philanthropy officer, YMCA of Greenville. “We would not be able to deliver as much of an impact on our mission without their support.”

Over the past ten years, the YMCA of Greenville has raised more than $10 million for the Annual Campaign, putting 100 percent of those funds back into Greenville County’s community.
