Quackenbush + Planning Architects named to top AIA leadership roles

January 16, 2023

Robyn Rogers, AIA, and Spencer Hutchinson, AIA, licensed architects and Associates at Quackenbush Architects + Planners, were named to top South Carolina architecture leadership roles effective January 1, 2023.

Rogers was named president of the American Institute of Architects South Carolina (AIASC) Chapter for the 2023-2024 term and Hutchinson was named president of the Columbia Section of AIA for the same period.

Rogers, who joined Quackenbush in 2014, has served as project lead on a number of the firm’s award-winning Q+ projects, including most recently, the design of the Rosewood Elementary School Library Addition and Renovation in Richland County School District One. The Rosewood project won the 2022 AIA Columbia Honor Award in New Construction and the 2022 AIA South Carolina Merit Award in New Construction. Rogers also serves on the board of the Clemson Architectural Foundation.

A LEED Green Associate with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Clemson University and a Master of Architecture from N.C. State, Rogers is enthusiastic about her new role with the AIASC. “I’m thrilled to be among other architect leaders in our state to progress AIASC’s mission of advocating for the architectural profession in South Carolina while also being a trusted resource for our members in service to our communities.”

Hutchinson, who joined Quackenbush in 2016, has taken on number of lead responsibilities with the firm’s projects involving new construction and renovation in the K-12 and higher education arena. Most notable is the design of the new Heyward Career & Technology Center Culinary Arts & Classroom Additions in Richland County School District One, which won a 2021 AIASC Honor Award for New Construction. He also managed the recently completed classroom addition at Carver Lyon Elementary School, and is currently leading design efforts on the new 58,000 SF Academic Student Services building at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter, SC.

A 2016 graduate of Clemson University Master of Architecture program, Hutchinson has served as a board member of AIA Columbia since 2019. He says he considers it a great privilege to step into this position. “I’m honored to serve our membership alongside a hardworking and dedicated board of directors. AIA Columbia represents a talented community of architects and designers committed to elevating the built environment in our city, and I’m excited for the opportunity to continue to support those collective efforts,” he says.

In recent years, Hutchinson and Rogers were voted as one of Columbia’s Best & Brightest 35 and Under by Columbia Business Monthly.

“We’re incredibly proud of Robyn’s and Spencer’s leadership in helping to advance design integrity and impact on our community,” says Q+ President Doug Quackenbush. “Their talents and leadership in collaborations, managing projects and simply just being great people, make them an asset to all who work with them.”
