Recognizing Local Heroes: Peace Officer Memorial Day in Laurens County

May 14, 2025

On Thursday, May 15, communities across the nation will pause to observe Peace Officer Memorial Day—a solemn day to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty. In Laurens County, this observance carries deep meaning as we reflect on the dedication of our own local heroes.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton Police Department, and Laurens Police Department work tirelessly to protect and serve residents every day. From answering emergency calls to building safer neighborhoods, these men and women uphold a vital commitment to justice, service, and community.

Peace Officer Memorial Day, established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, reminds us of the risks officers face daily—and the lives that have been lost protecting others. While we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we also take this opportunity to express gratitude to those who continue to serve with courage and integrity.

“Our deputies, and all law enforcement officers in Laurens County, take an oath to protect and serve—and they live up to that promise every day,” said Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds. “Peace Officer Memorial Day is a time for us to honor our fallen while standing behind the men and women who continue to serve our communities.”

The Sheriff’s office, The City of Clinton Police Department and the Laurens Police Department have each prioritized strong community relationships and public safety, forging trust through service and outreach. These efforts represent the heart of law enforcement in Laurens County—men and women who not only enforce the law but also care deeply about the people they protect.

On Thursday, May 15th, Peace Officer Memorial Day, the Laurens County Buzz encourages all residents to take a moment to thank a law enforcement officer. Your support matters—and so does their service.

To all who wear the badge in Laurens County: thank you. Your work is noticed. Your sacrifice is honored. And your dedication will never be forgotten. Never.
