Red Cross Launches New Legacy Society

January 22, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – January 22, 2013On January 14, 2013, the American Red Cross of the Columbia Region held its Inaugural Legacy Society event at MoMo’s Bistro on Devine Street in Columbia to honor and recognize the official establishment of the local Red Cross Legacy Society.

The Legacy Society honors individuals who have included the Red Cross in their will or trust, made the Red Cross a beneficiary of a retirement plan, insurance policy, or investment account, or established a gift arrangement such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust with the Red Cross as a beneficiary. There is no minimum gift requirement to become a Legacy Society member.

“Making my legacy gift was easy to do through my will,” said Charlotte Berry, founding member and co-chair of the Columbia Region’s Legacy Society. “I also put money into a charitable remainder trust. This unrestricted gift benefits the Red Cross and provides income from the trust to me during my lifetime. You can such a great feeling from donating to an organization you love. I would absolutely recommend making a planned gift to the Red Cross.”

The following founding members of the Legacy Society were recognized at the event for their generous investment in the Red Cross mission: David Aiken, Douglas Ambrose, Cindee Bailey, Charlotte and Joe Berry, Jerry T. Brewer, Margaret A. Gregory, Dennis Hinen, William R. Horton and Mary R. Major, Warren Laborde, Archie and Tammy Maddox, Kerry Matney, Jim F. Rogers, Scott and Kathie Salemme, Ann Marie Stieritz and John Carron, and Ken and Paula Thayer.

Those joining the Legacy Society prior to January 14, 2014, qualify as a Founding Member. To learn more about becoming a member contact Peter Hodes at (866) 620-8060 or [email protected]. To learn more about planned gift options you may visit our web site at RedCrossLegacy.org.
