Reedy Reels announces locations and dates for second film festival

August 22, 2016

The Countybank Reedy Reels Film Festival has a new location, new dates and a new title sponsor.

The film festival debuted last year with 36 original films being shown for the first time in Greenville as part of an effort to raise awareness of the Upstate’s vibrant film community, said Mike Giordano, one of the festival’s board members.

This year the festival will be held Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 at the Peace Center’s Gunter Theatre, he said. A final format is being developed, but organizers said movies will be shown in more themed blocks to give audience members more choices. Reedy Reels is accepting submission from filmmakers here or by applying on www.reedyreels.com/submissions.

The group decided to move its venue to downtown Greenville to help make it part of the city’s arts and culture scene, said Matt Foster, another event organizer.

“From day one, we have made Reedy Reels about bringing another great festival to Greenville and the Upstate,” Foster said. “By coming downtown, we increase that visibility. The Peace Center’s Gunter Theatre is a great location for Reedy Reels.”

Countybank COO/EVP Ken Harper added, “We are well aware of the rich and deep appreciation for the arts within the Greenville community, and we are pleased to help showcase yet another facet of art media through our sponsorship of the Reedy Reels Film Festival.”

The festival falls on the same weekend as the Metropolitan Arts Council’s Open Studios and Reedy Reels will tie into the event by working with local artists to showcase their work at the Gunter Theatre. In addition, there will be an awards portion of the event and opportunities to meet the filmmakers during the festival.
