Reedy Reels Film Festival coming to Greenville

Next great Upstate festival is this October – Reedy Reels Film Festival
GREENVILLE, SC – A group of area film enthusiasts have joined together to create the region’s next great event – Reedy Reels Film Festival.
More than 700 entries have been submitted for this two-day event that will feature eight different blocks of films on October 16 and 17 at the CU-ICAR facility in Greenville, said Matt Foster, the event’s founder and director. In addition, there will be an awards portion of the event, food trucks and opportunities to meet the filmmakers during the festival.
“The mission of Reedy Reels Film Festival is to showcase talented and independent filmmakers while diversifying Greenville’s cultural community through the art of film and independent film-making,” Foster said.
Tickets can be purchased at reedyreels.com. Tickets cost $55 for both days and $30 days for single-day entry. In addition, the organizers are securing more event sponsors. The Reedy Reels Film Festival is a non-profit organization that supports the education and appreciation of filmmaking.
Organizers said the idea for Reedy Reels Film Festival came from seeing a gap in the Upstate arts scene, said Mike Giordano, the event’s vice president of operations. There is a thriving film industry in the region and there is a large demand for more film options.
However, there has been no effort until now to have one large festival that organizers believe will grow to one of the premier events in the region in the next few years, he said.
“We want to create the next great event,” Giordano said.
A screening committee is reviewing the 700 entries to see what will play in the October showcase, Foster said. The goal is to find a mix of short and feature films that will reflect the artistic stylings of the Greenville area. The short films will be shown in block based on themes such as automotives, comedy, horror and the like.
“Reedy Reels is breaking new ground,” he said. “We want this to reflect our region and help it grow.”
