Reedy River Gets Swept By ReWa Employees

17th Annual Reedy River Sweep

GREENVILLE, SC – September 25, 2012 – Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) recently held its 17th annual Reedy River Sweep, an event for ReWa employees to demonstrate their dedication to the local environment.

ReWa employees volunteered their time to remove trash, tires, and other harmful debris from the Reedy River and its’ banks. The annual event is one that ReWa employees hold of great importance, since their jobs focus on protecting Upstate waterways on a daily basis. The Reedy River Sweep is another opportunity to help protect the Upstate’s water quality.

At this year’s event, 40 employees participated, along with 24 volunteers from St. Mary’s Boy Scout Troop 521.The River Sweep team collected over 1 and a half tons of trash and debris, 18 tires from the Reedy River’s section at ReWa’s Mauldin Facility. The 1.5-mile riverfront at the intersection of I-85 and Mauldin Road runs through the ReWa property and serves as the receiving stream for the plant’s effluent.

Beach Sweep/River Sweep

The South Carolina Beach Sweep/River Sweep (SCBSRS), the largest one-day volunteer cleanup event of its kind. SCBSRS is organized by the SC Sea Grant Consortium, the SC Department of Natural Resources and the SCANA Corporation. Since 1988, this annual clean-up clears our waterways of unsightly debris, educates the public about the impact that aquatic debris has on our economy and our environment, and serves as a research tool for the Center for Marine Conservation in Washington, D.C.
