Rep. Duncan Releases Statement after Joining Amicus Briefs to Restart Construction on the Mountain Valley Pipeline

July 24, 2023

Following the filing of an amicus brief by the U.S. House of Representatives and another by select members of the House and Senate, Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC) released the following statement:

“I am proud to sign onto two amicus briefs to protect American energy independence and uphold the Constitutional authority of Congress,” said Congressman Jeff Duncan. “The Mountain Valley Pipeline is an energy superhighway, essentially the Keystone XL pipeline for the Southeast, that will bring economic growth, energy security, and prevent an energy crisis in states like South Carolina.”

“It is vital Congress ensures the Mountain Valley Pipeline will be completed as we made clear in the Fiscal Responsibility Act. By flagrantly ignoring an act of Congress which was signed into law by the President, special interest environmental groups and activist courts jeopardize American energy security by halting construction on the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Further, the judicial overreach of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit takes away jobs of countless construction workers, halts investments into local communities across the Southeast and ceases royalty payments to landowners.”

Background: The U.S. House of Representatives filed an amicus brief on July 20 while Representative Reschenthaler, Senator Capito, Representative Duncan and colleagues filed a brief on July 19.
