Residents Can Become More Money Savvy at Free Financial Literacy Workshop

COLUMBIA, SC – Richland County residents with holiday season bills lingering and hopes for more organized finances in the new year could gain some money-saving insight by attending a free financial literacy workshop.
Hosted by the Richland County Office of Community Development, the second annual Financial Literacy Workshop – a free event – will take place 10 a.m.-1p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Parklane Adult Activity Center, 7494 Parklane Road.
The Office of Community Development has arranged three guest speakers who will address a range of financial topics at the workshop, including “From Cents to Dollars” and “Do You Trust Your Will?”
Richland County Probate Judge Amy McCulloch will present information about wills and trust and other financial aspects that are handled by the probate court. Henry Goodwin, a senior benefits specialist with Liberty National, will give tips and advice about some of the best ways to invest, budget and save money. Representatives of the United Way of the Midlands will discuss the organization’s Free Tax Preparation Program. Through the program, families in the Midlands that make less than $50,000 a year are able to file their income taxes for free at any United Way of the Midlands location.
“What better way to begin the new year than by getting your financial affairs in order,” said Tina Thomas, Housing Project Coordinator with Richland County Community Development. “A lot of great information will be presented at this workshop. We hope to see everyone there.”
