Residents invited to new logo unveiling for Broad River Road community

The Broad River Road area is undergoing a makeover – of sorts.
On Monday, Richland County will unveil a new logo designed to give the Broad River Road area an updated identity, much like the rebranding effort the County spearheaded for Decker Boulevard, known as the International Corridor.
For the Broad River Road project, Richland County’s Neighborhood Improvement Program kicked off a rebranding campaign last year with a series of meetings to get public input. Led by Councilwoman Joyce Dickerson, representative for District 2, the effort sought to gain insight into what residents think about the area, which is one of Columbia’s first suburbs.
A lifetime resident of St. Andrews, Dickerson hopes to celebrate the neighborhoods along the corridor that have remained tight-knit, resilient communities for decades despite growth and decline, transformations and revitalizations.
“Many of the original residents have moved away and some may have passed away, but those of us who are still rooted in this community have maintained a harmonious relationship and still have a love for this community,” Dickerson said. “We are still one big happy family.”
The special logo unveiling is 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 26 at St. Andrews Park, 920 Beatty Road, Columbia. Richland County Councilmembers, elected officials and community leaders are expected to speak at the event.
The Broad River Road area includes several schools, Riverside Golf and Recreation Center, St. Andrews Park and Dutch Square shopping center. The corridor parallels the Broad River.
