Reverse Mortgage Specialist First in State to Earn Professional Certification

CHARLESTON, SC – January 17, 2012 – David Heilman, vice president of Franklin Funding ReverseMortgages, is the first in South Carolina to earn the Certified ReverseMortgage Professional (CRMP) designation. Only 32 people in the country havethis designation awarded by the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association.

To become certified, an individual must demonstrate knowledgeand competency in the area of reverse mortgages and a dedication to upholdingthe highest ethical and professional standards. Heilman’s certification also wasbased on his experience in the industry and continuing education.

“Obtaining this designation was a goal of mine because itshows a clear level of commitment to the industry and, most importantly, to theseniors we serve,” Heilman said. “And with more than 10,000 people turning 65each day, there is no doubt the use of home equity will be needed more than everas seniors try to maintain their lifestyle, continue funding retirement or payfor healthcare.

Heilman, a resident of Summerville, has been with FranklinFunding since 2007. He currently serves president-elect of the Mortgage LendersAssociation of Greater Charleston and will take on the role of president nextyear.

Reverse mortgages are available to seniors age 62 and olderwho have home equity. They allow senior homeowners to borrow against the equityin their homes without having to make monthly payments as is required with atraditional mortgage. With a reverse mortgage, funds are advanced to theborrower and interest accrues, but the outstanding balance isn’t due until thelast borrower leaves the home, sells the home or dies.
