Revolutionary War Lecture to Highlight Heroism of Colonel Elijah Clarke
May 6, 2025The Laurens County Museum Revolutionary War Lecture Series continues with “Elijah Clarke – Revolutionary War Colonel“ by Durant Ashmore on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, 7:00 pm, at the Laurens County Museum. Museum members and youth are free. There is a suggested donation of $5 for others for museum support. The museum is located at 116 South Public Square, Laurens, SC.
Clarke was active in the decisive southern theater of the war. Wounded several times, including in Laurens County at the Battle of Musgrove’s Mill, Elijah Clarke was one of the few heroes of the Revolutionary War from Georgia.
He fought under revered South Carolina General Andrew Pickens at the Battle of Kettle Creek near Washington, Georgia. His valor resulted in a county in Georgia being named for him.
