Ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate a completed project under the Transportation Penny Program

May 16, 2016

Richland County and the Richland Penny Program will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a newly constructed sidewalk on Windover Street onsite at 11a.m. on Friday, May 20. Windover Street is one of fifty-six sidewalk projects funded by the 2012 penny sales tax referendum.

The project is a 5-foot wide sidewalk along Windover Street from Two Notch Road to Belvedere Drive. Armstrong Contractors LLC, a company certified by the Richland County Small, Local Business Enterprises program, was the contractor for this sheltered-market project.

“We’re happy to introduce our latest accomplishment to the citizens of Richland County,” said Rob Perry, Richland County transportation director. “The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Windover Street project marks the first completed sidewalk project for this year.”

Councilman Jeter, who represents the district where the project is located, is scheduled to be on hand to offer a few remarks regarding Windover Street and to assist in the ribbon-cutting.

The completion of the Windover Street project is a significant achievement for community members, especially those who use the transit system. According to the COMET, bus route 16, which is located at Two Notch Road and Windover Street, is the third busiest route in the system with nearly 16,000 passengers boarding per month. That location recently received brand new penny-funded benches.

Approximately eight sidewalk projects are scheduled to be constructed this year.
