Richardson Plowden names Riser and Thoensen as shareholders

Richardson Plowden & Robinson, P.A. announced that attorneys Caleb M. Riser and Joseph E. Thoensen have been named shareholders in the Firm. Riser joined Richardson Plowden in 2009. Thoensen joined Richardson Plowden in 2007. Both attorneys are part of the Firm’s Columbia office.

Riser focuses his practice in construction litigation, procurement, general litigation, insurance defense, and government liability defense. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Tennessee in 2000. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Regent University School of Law in 2009. Before joining Richardson Plowden, Riser was employed by TVS-DESIGN, located in Atlanta, Chicago, Dubai, and Shanghai. While at TVS, Riser worked on various institutional projects, as well as commercial office building and public assembly space design, and distinguished himself as chairman of the Professional Development Committee. His experience in architecture brings invaluable insight, knowledge and experience to the practice of construction law. While attending law school, Riser served as a law clerk at Richardson Plowden for two years. Riser is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects, and also a member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association (SCDTAA), the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and the South Carolina Bar, Construction Law Section Council Member.

Thoensen focuses his practice in civil litigation, insurance defense, products liability, toxic tort defense-asbestos, premises liability defense, and retail and hospitality defense. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia in 2000. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 2004. His experience includes advising insurance clients in products liability, premises liability and other personal injury matters; routinely appearing in state and federal courts throughout South Carolina on behalf of corporations and insurance companies; successfully negotiating and mediating a wide variety of personal injury claims; and defending hundreds of asbestos exposure claims throughout South Carolina on behalf of multiple product manufacturers. He is a member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association (SCDTAA), the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the Richland County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Bar.
