Richland County Council Elects Rush Chair, Pearce Vice Chair

COLUMBIA, SC – At Richland County Council’s first meeting of the year Tuesday, members chose Torrey Rush (left) to serve as Chair and Greg Pearce (right) to serve as Vice Chair for 2015.

Rush, who represents District 7, was first elected to Council in 2012. Pearce, first elected to Council in 1999, represents District 6.

Norman Jackson, District 11, and Joyce Dickerson, District 2, previously served as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively. The Chair and Vice Chair of Richland County Council maintain order during Council meetings, decide what items make it onto agendas and represent Council at public functions.

Five Councilmembers were sworn in for the 2014-2018 term during a public ceremony held prior to the Council meeting. Bill Malinowski, District 1, Paul Livingston, District 4, Seth Rose, District 5, and Norman Jackson, District 11, were all elected by voters in November.
