Richland County issues a Notice to Proceed for Intersections Improvement Project

COLUMBIA, SC – The Richland Penny Program is pleased to announce C.R. Jackson, Inc. was issued a Notice to Proceed for an 18-month, $9 million contract for six design/build intersection improvements within Richland County. The design/build intersections are part of the list of projects included in the 2012 referendum. Improvements will vary by intersection and range from additional turning lanes to a new roundabout.

The six design/build intersection improvements are:

  • Broad River Road at Rushmore Road will have a new right turn lane constructed from Rushmore Road onto Broad River Road and a reconfigured traffic signal;
  • Clemson Road at North Springs Road/Rhame Road will have a dedicated dual left turn from North Springs Road onto Clemson Road, a dedicated dual left turn lane from Rhame Road onto Clemson Road and a dedicated right turn lane from Clemson Road onto North Springs Road;
  • Farrow Road at Pisgah Church Road will have a dedicated right turn lane from Pisgah Church Road onto Farrow Road, and a reconfigured traffic signal;
  • Kennerly Road at Coogler Road/Steeple Ridge Road will have an entirely new roundabout constructed in lieu of the existing intersection;
  • North Springs Road at Risdon Way will have a new left turn lane from North Springs Road onto Risdon Way; and,
  • Summit Parkway at Summit Ridge Drive will have a dedicated right turn lane from Summit Parkway onto Summit Ridge, and a dual left turn lane from Summit Ridge onto Summit Parkway.

C.R. Jackson, Inc. will begin making improvements to the Summit Parkway at Summit Ridge Drive intersection first. Work is scheduled to begin in fall 2015.

“Today we celebrate placing another category of projects, intersection improvements, into the hands of a construction contractor,” said Rob Perry, Richland County transportation director. “In addition to these six intersections, we have a lot of projects currently being designed and look forward to delivering even more projects to construction next year.”
