Richland County Offices to Close Tuesday; Meetings Canceled, Garbage Pickup Suspended

October 5, 2015

Richland County Government offices will remain closed Tuesday, with the exception of essential personnel.

As emergency officials shift to recovery mode after this week’s catastrophic flooding, the public is asked to make note of changes in public meeting times and trash schedules. In addition, residents inquiring about evacuations or needing to report downed power lines and other dangers in public areas should call 803-576-3432.

Richland County Council:

  • Richland County Council will hold a special called meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St. Please note, the meeting will be held in the 4th floor conference room instead of Council Chambers.
  • All Richland County Council committee and regular session Council meetings have been postponed and rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 12, 2015.

Garbage Collection:

  • Curbside collections are canceled until roads are cleared for truck traffic. Residents should secure all household garbage in bags until the next normal collection day.  Missed days will not be made up.  When service is resumed, it will resume on the normal schedule.
  • Recycling collections are scheduled to resume next week. Yard waste collections will likely resume next week, but will be used as collection for yard waste and waste resulting from the storm and flooding.
  • Do not place electronic waste in the storm debris.
  • The County landfill and the Lower Richland Drop-off Center will open Tuesday on a normal schedule. In addition, a temporary debris collection area has been set up at 400 Powell Road.

Residents are urged to stay tuned to local news media and social media for the latest updates and information as it relates to shelters, evacuations and other emergency notifications.
