Richland County to host virtual Transportation meeting – May 21

May 14, 2020

Richland County Councilman Calvin “Chip” Jackson is partnering with the County’s Transportation department to hold a virtual meeting on the Penny Program on Thursday, May 21.

The meeting aims to give residents a comprehensive update on the program’s progress. Jackson will provide a brief introduction, followed by information from Transportation staff on current construction projects and what lies ahead for the program.

In 2012, County residents voted to approve a referendum for the Penny Program, which imposed a 1 percent sales tax to collect funding for roads, bikeways, greenways and pedestrian safety improvements.

Jackson, who chairs County Council’s Transportation Ad Hoc Committee and represents District 9, intends for the meeting to clear up potential misunderstandings and misinformation about the program.

“It’s important for you to have accurate information, and we want to make sure all the residents and all the constituents get current and factual information,” Jackson said.

The virtual meeting will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and can be accessed via:
