Join Richland Library for an opening reception of its newest art exhibition, Weaving Communities and Cultures Through Cloth, Friday, October 6 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., at Richland Library Main (1431 Assembly Street). Customers can experience intricate ancestral weaves that are produced by indigenous communities in the Philippines. The culturally significant tapestries are generational heirlooms that explore the instrumental role that women, who are the primary weavers in the Philippines, have in Filipino communities.

Weaving Communities and Cultures Through Cloth kicks off the month-long celebration of Filipino American History Month at Richland Library, honoring the history, pursuits, accomplishments, and legacy of Filipino Americans in the United States.

Visitors to Richland Library are invited to continue the celebration with:

In conjunction with the gallery exhibition Weaving Communities Through Cloth, and Filipino American History Month, author Marian Pastor Roces discusses the significance and creation of traditional hand-woven textiles from the Philippines.

Celebrate Filipino heritage through an interactive community workshop on Philippine cultural identity through music!
