Richland Library celebrates graduation of five students from Career Online High School

October 14, 2019

Five local students, between the ages of 22 and 47, have officially moved their tassels from right to left. Richland Library hosted its first Career Online High School (COHS) graduation on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Main location (1431 Assembly Street).

We wanted to congratulate the following individuals, who earned a high school diploma:

  • Teresa Bethea
  • Deneka Doctor
  • Kindra Tucker
  • Andrea Walters
  • Diamond Wilson

Each graduate also selected and received a career certificate in one of 10 fields, including Home Care Professional, General Career Prep and Office Management.

“Career Online High School has truly given people hope,” said Richland Library Executive Director Melanie Huggins. “The personal stories that they share – the stories that have brought them to this point – are so moving. Many thought they would never get this chance again.”

Designed to reengage adults and prepare them for other higher education opportunities or the workforce, Career Online High School allows customers to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate for free. Richland Library is the only library in the Carolinas to offer this program, which launched in November 2018.

Currently, Richland Library has 40 students who are enrolled, 70 interested candidates who have completed the pre-requisite course and more than 600 people who have taken the self-assessment.
