Richland Library hosts public art workshops

June 13, 2016
COLUMBIA, SC – Richland Library is inviting the community to have a hand in shaping the look and feel of its new location in Ballentine. This summer, there are two separate, public workshops to design pieces for the new 13,000 square-foot building, currently under construction at 1200 Dutch Fork Road.
During Show and Tell Your Memories – Aurora of Memories, artist Ayako Miller is asking the community to share their memories, which she will use to create a unique textile sculpture, called Aurora of Memories. Bring photos, quotes, favorite book covers and short messages with you to the following show-and-tell events at Richland Library Ballentine (1321 Dutch Fork Road):
  • 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 14
  • 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 13
If you cannot attend the workshop, you can send your memory as a high-resolution photo to BallentineArt@richlandlibrary.com.
Additionally, members of the community can come together and learn how to crochet their own piece of yarn wisteria from artist Barbara Streeter during Create for Your Library – The Hyperbolic Crochet Wisteria Project. Each created piece will be part of the larger vine as public art. No experience is required and all ages are welcome. Join us during the following crochet workshops at Richland Library Ballentine (1321 Dutch Fork Road):
  • 10 – 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 27
  • 3 – 4:30 p.m., Monday, July 25
  • 6 – 7:30 p.m., Monday, August 29
  • 6 – 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 26
