Richland Library introduces initiatives for 2020 Census & Voter Registration

As deadlines quickly approach for the 2020 Census and upcoming General Election, Richland Library is presenting some new initiatives to make sure local residents get counted and heard.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the self-response rate in Richland County is around 62%. The library has a dedicated phone line to help people respond to the census. Call 803-569-3565 and speak with a staff member from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Because the U.S. Census Bureau is also promoting online response as the preferred method to complete the 2020 Census for the first time, the library wants to share a reminder with local residents. If they need high-speed Internet, Wi-Fi is available at 12 of our 13 library locations – with the exception of Sandhills – and accessible from the parking lots.
Shifting to the election process, it’s important for people to check their registration status if they want to head to the polls on November 3. The library has stamped voter registration forms available at our locations with pick-up windows (Ballentine; Northeast; Sandhills; St. Andrews). Our staff members can print absentee applications upon request as well.
Following the recent announcement about the need for hundreds of additional polls workers at precincts across Richland County, the library has around two dozen of our staff members who have volunteered to receive training and serve as poll workers on Election Day.
These initiatives are made possible, thanks to partnerships with the Columbia Complete Count Committee and Richland County Voter Registration and Elections.
