Richland Library plans for future of Lower Richland location, invites community inputs

As Lower Richland continues to grow, Richland Library is planning for the future of the Lower Richland location and creating new opportunities for the library to grow alongside the community.

After opening in leased retail space in 2019, Richland Library purchased the entire building in early 2026 for $1.075 million when the remaining retail spaces became vacant. The purchase creates the opportunity to expand the location from approximately 5,200 square feet to 7,800 square feet.

“Continuing to invest in the Lower Richland community is essential to our mission of strengthening the community and expanding access to services and resources,” said Tamara King, executive director of Richland Library. “We look forward to listening to the voices and experiences of Lower Richland residents as we reimagine library service in this community.”

Community voices will help shape what comes next. Before designs are developed, Richland Library will gather feedback from the Lower Richland community to better understand local needs and help shape the expansion. Residents can share their ideas at an open house from 2–4 p.m. Saturday, October 10, at Richland Library Lower Richland, through talkback boards placed throughout the community, and an online feedback form. Community input will help inform recommendations for future library spaces, services, and resources.
