Richland Library plans for upcoming outdoor programs

April 26, 2021

As Richland Library continues to thoughtfully and intentionally expand services, we’re beginning to pilot outdoor programs at our locations and in the community.

The Farmers Market is back to offer fresh produce, baked goods and other local items while accessing library resources. Please join us 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesdays in the Plaza at our Main location (1431 Assembly Street). We have several vendors on hand each week, which accept various forms of payment, including cash, debit/credit and SNAP. For a complete list of vendors, visit richlandlibrary.com.

We’re hosting Pop-Up Art Shows as part of an outdoor exhibition series in May and June. The library is collaborating with local visual artist Jeff Rivers to highlight the work of local BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) artists and their unique personal ties to seven of our locations. The first event takes place 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, May 1 in the Plaza at our Main location and features Photographer Donaven Doughty and Street Artist/Painter Joel Nathan.

Lastly, the library is partnering with organizations, such as Historic Columbia, to offer some upcoming programs, such as:

En Plein Air Painting
2 – 4 p.m., Sunday, May 2
Gardens of the Woodrow Wilson Family Home (1705 Hampton Street)
Join Richland Library Arts Librarian Ashley Warthen and other local artists for an afternoon of painting en plein air – aka painting outside. Bring your easels, paints, blankets, and snacks and let’s enjoy creating together.

Storytime in the Garden
2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., Thursday, May 13
Hampton-Preston Mansion and Gardens (1615 Blanding Street)
Enjoy stories, songs and activities outdoors. Register online at richlandlibrary.com to attend. Each registration is for a “family square,” which accommodates up to five people.
