Richland Library’s next artist-in-residence brings photojournalism into focus

September 23, 2020

A local artist who aims to facilitate real dialogue by capturing moments in time through a camera lens is sharing his talents with Richland Library over the next three months. We’re excited to welcome Marion “Crush” Rush as our next artist-in-residence.

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Crush is a full-time, self-employed photographer. He enjoys chronicling the world of political and civil unrest as it unfolds in real time through his photojournalism.

Through his art, Crush strives to uplift the community through arts education and fact-driven dialogue. He values community connectivity, wants to help others learn, create and share, and looks to affect change among artists in need during these unprecedented times. During his residency, which lasts through December 18, Crush is serving as a liaison between the library and the local arts community. He’s working closely with our arts librarian to curate digital content on the library’s website, offer online programming and host virtual artist meet-ups.

Initially developed in September 2016, the concept behind Richland Library’s artist-in-residence is to connect the community with local, working artists and to provide creative and educational opportunities to local residents in a way that supports cultural and artistic exchange.
