Richland Northeast High School names new basketball coach

COLUMBIA, SC – Jabari Deas has been named the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Richland Northeast High School. Deas comes to Richland Two from Lee County School District where he was a boys assistant coach for one year at Lee Central High School. Deas succeeds Precious Caldwell who stepped down last month to pursue a career in school administration.

“We are excited about Coach Deas joining the Cavalier Family in an effort to continue improving on the progress of our girls’ basketball team over the past several years under Coach Caldwell,” said Richland Northeast Athletic Director Gary Fulmer.

The Cavaliers will be moving up to Region 4-4A next school year. Deas says he’s ready for the challenge.  “I am so thankful to receive this opportunity from Mr. Fulmer and Principal Dr. Sabrina Suber. This is a top quality program and I am looking forward to developing great players and a great program through hard work and dedication,” said Deas.

Prior to coming to Richland Northeast, Deas was also a varsity girls head coach at Darlington High School (2012-2015); varsity boys head coach at Manning High School (2008-2012). He’s was also a varsity boys assistant coach at Lee Central High School in 2006 and 2007 when those teams won back-to-back state titles and made four straight appearances in the state championship game between 2004-2007.

Deas holds a Bachelor of Arts in History Education from South Carolina State University. He teaches social studies.  He is married to the former Shanitra Singleton, an assistant principal at Dent Middle School. They have three children, Zamoni, Jabari, Jr. and David, ages 11, 7, and 2 respectively.  The Deas family resides in Columbia, S.C.
