Richland One collecting food for families in need

December 1, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Many families in our community are struggling to put food on the table, but Richland One and the City of Columbia have teamed up again this year to help ensure that no one goes hungry this holiday season.

The annual “Honor the Dream” food drive honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will run through December 11. Food collection barrels have been placed in the front lobbies of every school and administrative building in the district. Richland One students, employees, parents and volunteers, as well as businesses and other community supporters, are urged to join in this effort to assist families served by the Harvest Hope Food Bank. The food drive is being coordinated by Student Nutrition Services.

The district hopes to top last year’s collection total of more than 13,000 pounds of food. The Richland One schools collecting the most food will be recognized at the City of Columbia’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 18 at 4:00 p.m. at King Park, 2300 Greene Street.
