Richland One is hiring bus drivers, offering signing bonuses

December 16, 2020

Richland One is offering bus driver applicants some of the best and most competitive financial incentives in the Midlands, including signing bonuses, paid training and college tuition reimbursement.

“Richland One starts its bus drivers at $14.63 per hour,” said Dennis Jones, manager for safety and training in Richland One Student Transportation Services. “Plus, we offer flexible hours and $500 signing bonuses for drivers who already have their CDL license/certification and one year’s experience.”

One of the most exciting advantages Richland One offers is paid CDL (commercial driver’s license) training for interested applicants who do not have CDL and bus driver certification.

“Interested, qualified applicants who participate in the six-week CDL training program will get paid during that period. With our training program, once you pass and are certified, you could be driving a bus very soon,” Jones said.

The district also offers health and dental coverage as well as college tuition reimbursement for drivers who want to pursue a higher education degree.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma (or GED) and pass rigorous South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) background checks.

In addition to bus drivers, Richland One is hiring bus aides to assist drivers, help students board and depart the bus, and maintain safety standards.

Applicants who would like more detailed information about the bus driver or bus aide positions should email Dennis Jones at [email protected] or call (803) 691-5593.
