Richland One School Board Names Interim Superintendent

May 29, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – The Richland One Board of School Commissioners has chosen Dr. Cynthia Cash-Greene to serve as the district’s interim superintendent.

Earlier this month Superintendent Dr. Percy Mack, who has led Richland One for six years, announced his plans to retire on June 30. After an executive session discussion, the Board voted unanimously at its May 27 meeting to hire Dr. Cash-Greene for the interim position.

Board Chairman Aaron Bishop said she will begin her duties as interim superintendent on June 2. She will work with Dr. Mack to ensure a smooth transition in the leadership of the district, particularly in preparing for the new school year, he said.

“We stand united as a Board in our selection of Dr. Cash-Greene and we are confident that she has the background, experience and leadership skills to guide the district effectively during this transition period,” Chairman Bishop said.

Dr. Cash-Greene, a South Carolina native and a Columbia resident, worked in Richland One for 19 years, serving as an assistant principal, principal and executive director of schools during her tenure. She was named superintendent of Orangeburg Consolidated District Three in 2009 and led the district for four years. Dr. Cash-Greene currently serves as an education associate in the Office of School Leadership at the South Carolina Department of Education.

“I am honored to serve as the interim superintendent with a school board as passionate about educating children as what I have found in Richland One,” she said. “I look forward to leading the vision and mission that the Board supports to ensure that every child in Richland One receives a high quality education.”

Chairman Bishop said the Board’s next step will be to launch a nationwide search for a new superintendent.
